Cape Town – Tour de Laborie & Bar di Bar
On the 2nd and 3rd of March we kicked off the year with our first official 2016 Come Wine With Us event.
Laborie opened their doors as our gracious hosts for an evening jam-packed with activities which included a beer pairing at Bar di Bar followed by a wine pairing at their Taste tapas terrace.
To ensure that our guests could indulge and still arrive back home safely and responsibly, we offered a complimentary bus service from town and back. We were happy to see how many people chose to make use of this option as we continue to promote responsible drinking.
At Bar di Bar the team from Three-Streams Smokehouse gave us some insights into some of the interesting pairings of the evening made with their hot smoked salmon and smoked trout variants.
Then we were taken through the beer pairing menu which consisted of Bar di Bar’s very own APA paired with Hot Smoked Salmon flaked onto a crostini with cream cheese & lime mayonnaise, followed by a Stellenbrau Lager paired with a galantine of chicken & quail with a peach & onion chutney, and then finally a Long Beach Brewery Deep Water Porter paired with slow cooked pork belly with Asian green stirfry veg & a master stock glaze.
The activities then moved over to the Taste terrace where our guests were treated to the acoustic talents of Triveno while continuing to enjoy flowing Laborie MCC.
As always, our active Twitter fans were rewarded with a few spot prizes, while all guests were able to take advantage of some really great MCC and “Genot boks” wine specials.
For the wine pairing portion of the evening the Laborie team paired their 2015 Sauvignon Blanc with cold smoked trout on toasted herb ciabatta with an apple and celeriac Waldorf salad, trout caviar, microgreens & a herb oil, followed by their 2014 Merlot with confit duck, vegetable spring rolls and an Asian dipping sauce, and finally the Laborie 2013 Jean Taillefert Shiraz with springbok fillet, a sour vygie jus & fondant potato.
It was most certainly a feast for the senses and an all-round fantastic evening out in the beautiful Paarl winelands. For more photos from the evening, do hop on over to our Facebook page for a full album of our evening festivities as captured by the talented Bernard Bruwer Photography.
