So it has officially arrived, the last Johannesburg come wine with us for the year! And what a festive evening it was!
The event was held at the Doppio Zero in Pineslopes (Fourways), one of eleven restaurants of the like. Doppio Zero has a strong ethos centered around the goodness of quality and has reached success with their hands-on approach. They revisit and revamp their menu’s every season and we had the pleasure of working with the Chef responsible for this, Christo.
We learned the infamous definition of Doppio Zero Brand: Double Zero (00) is a grading of the finest milled flour used to make pizza, pasta and confectionery. They use “Farina 00” to make all the famous gourmet pizzas. And although we didn’t enjoy their legendary pizzas on the evening, we can definitely confirm that everything served was of the finest quality.
Upon guests arrival they were greeted with a flirty Cluxland Gin and Tonic with Naartjie peel and showed to their seats.
The evening kicked off with some welcoming words from Sybil, information from Etienne and his team from Doppio Zero and an introduction to the world of KWV by Juliette.
The dinner started with an array of starters to choose from and was served with a Laborie MCC and KWV 3years. The guests were truly spoiled for choice on the evening. The three starters that was on offer was a marinated Chimichurri Flank Steak, Char Grilled, served with Shaved Turnip, Radish & Micro Herbs.
The second option was Scilian Tuna Carpaccio served with capers, Rose wine, Chilli, Basil, Dill, Garlic, Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Dressed Rocket. The vegetarian starter was a Mushroom fritti with grated parmesan, garlic mayo, cress and lemon wedge.
The first main course of Braised Asian Sticky Beef Short Rib with Creamy Cauliflower Puree, Caramelized Pearl Onions & Fondant Potato was paired the KWV Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. The vegetarian option, Shotgun Canaloni with Spinach, Ricotta, Freshly Grated Parmesan & Napoletana sauce was also paired the KWV Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. The third main of choice was the Pollo Involtini – Bacon Wrapped Chicken Breast Filled with Mozzarella, Mushrooms, Sundried Tomato, Spinach, Roasted Pepper with Cream & White wine Sauce served with Potato Puree and was paired perfectly with KWV Reserve Sauvignon Blanc.
Just before desserts were served the KWV 12 & 20 year brandy went out. Juliette explained the differences to the guests and everyone had a chance to compare these world class and award winning brandy’s. They were paired with some seasonal fruit with Lemon Meringue, Berry Compote & Vanilla Custard or the guests could choose the Chocolate Done Three Ways with Barone Sauce.
And so the evening came to an end and we greeted our guests for the last time this year. We want to thank everyone that joined in on the festivities and contributed to such a memorable evening – a highlight and perfect way to end the year.
We would like to thank Doppio Zero for being such gracious hosts for our event and for the finest quality food that they prepared for the guests. Everything tasted and looked fantastic.

Relaunch of the ever popular classic in Fourways can be found in the Pineslopes shopping centre, a stone throw away from the infamous Monte Casino.
The new location boasts a beautiful new arena for sun set cocktails, a craft beer bar and supported by classic great Doppio foods.
